History

In 1994, Dr. Woodall moved to Colorado Springs in search of cooler climates and wide open spaces of the Wild West. He went to work for North Academy Veterinary Hospital as the sole large animal practitioner in a long established veterinary practice that had cared for horses on the Front Range since the early 80s. With him he brought life long experience as a horseman and several years experience in the area of equine veterinary medicine and surgery. At North Academy Veterinary Hospital Dr. Woodall worked hard to develop the equine practice and expand the availability of high quality treatment options for horses on the Front Range.

In 1997 Dr. Woodall employed the surgical expertise of Dr. Scott Gustafson, a boarded veterinary surgeon that had obtained his specialty from Colorado State University. Dr. Gustafson's surgical specialties were utilized in every possible case to allow optimum patient care and quality training of Dr. Woodall and staff when working with horses requiring surgical intervention. Working close with Dr. Gustafson for four years gave Dr. Woodall extensive knowledge and experience in equine surgery. The good friendship developed between the two veterinarians continues today though Dr. Gustafson is now a practicing surgeon at Oregon State University.

In early 2000, Aspen Ridge Equine Hospital, PC was established. Dr. Woodall bought the large animal portion of North Academy Veterinary Hospital and continued the equine practice from that facility under it's new name with the help of Lee Howard, CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) and Doreen Riffe, Receptionist / Assistant. From there Aspen Ridge has developed a foundation of honesty and dedication while striving to do the very best medicine available for its equine patients and horse owners on the Front Range.

In fall of 2002 the hospital was moved from North Academy Veterinary Hospital within the city of Colorado Springs to the current facilities just south of Monument. The stable and indoor arena of Aspen Ridge Equine Hospital was built in 1994 and was previously known by many in the equestrian community as Blue Haven Farm. In addition, the arenas and cross country course were built in the mid 90s and continues to be added to each year. In 2003, the hospital building was built at the north end of the indoor arena and designed to be a highly efficient full service equine hospital.

Since 2003 Aspen Ridge Equine Hospital, PC has continued to grow and service the equestrian community in many ways. From thorough prepurchase examinations to routine patient care to emergency surgery to client education, the veterinary services available to our clients provide the most complete care possible for the horses and horsemen of the Pikes Peak Region. In addition, the facilities available for horse shows and training of the horse enthusiast allow for the enjoyment of these animals and not just their treatment in the unfortunate event they become ill. We look forward to helping the horses and their owners for along time to come.

Sincerely,
Aspen Ridge Equine Hospital, PC
